Description:
CHINOOK MOTOR INN is a complete modern facility with 38 clean, comfortable rooms, family restaurant and lounge/casino. Featured are queen-size beds, non-smoking and smoking rooms, HBO and cable television, handicapped room, and meeting and banquet facilities that can accommodate groups efficiently. The Chinook Motor Inn is conveniently located on Highway #2 for travelers, business persons and hunters. Stay with us and enjoy Chinook’s historical museum, Bear’s Paw Battlefield, fall hunting, and year-round hospitality. For more information and/or reservations at North central Montana’s finest stop, phone 357-2248. The Blaine County Museum is located three blocks south of US Route 2 on Chinook’s Main Street. Extensive exhibits tell the story of the Nez Perce Indians, the pioneer days of the cowboy, the hardships of the homestead era, and follow Blaine County through two World Wars. The paleontology department exhibits many unique fossil remains and the dinosaurs which lived, hunted and died in what is now Blaine County. The audiovisual presentation ‘40 Miles to Freedom’ is one of the highlights of the museum. It details the events leading up to the Battle and Siege of the Bear Paw. This event ended one of the most remarkable and tragic retreats in this nation’s history, inspiring Chief Joseph to utter the now immortal line, ‘From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever.’ The Bear Paw Battlefield is a unit of Nez Perce National Historical Park, managed by the National Park Service. The site is located 16 miles south of Chinook, Montana, via US Route 2 and County Road 240. Recreational opportunities around Chinook are limited to the extent of one’s imagination. Varmint, antelope, deer, waterfowl, and upland game bird hunting is unmatched anywhere. Bighorn Sheep and elk roam the Missouri Breaks area. For the fishing enthusiast, nearby reservoirs are filled with everything from trout to the crafty walleye. "
